Germ Layers
The three embryonic layers — endoderm, mesoderm, ectoderm — that GNM uses to sort every tissue by its brain control, conflict theme, and behavior across the two phases.
During the first weeks of embryonic development, cells differentiate into three foundational layers — the endoderm (innermost), mesoderm (middle), and ectoderm (outermost) — and every organ and tissue in the body grows out of one of them. German New Medicine uses this ordinary embryology as its filing system, via the Ontogenetic System.
Endoderm (brainstem). The oldest layer, covering the most ancient survival functions: lung alveoli, liver, pancreas, stomach lining, intestines, thyroid, the bladder submucosa, kidney collecting tubules. GNM proposes these tissues add cells during conflict activity and break the extra cells down during healing. Conflict themes are archaic — death-fright, indigestible morsel, existence.
Old mesoderm (cerebellum). Protective structures: the inner skin layer (corium), pleura, peritoneum, pericardium, breast glands. Same pattern as the endoderm — growth during activity, breakdown during healing. Themes involve attack against integrity.
New mesoderm (cerebral medulla). Structural support: bones, cartilage, muscle, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels (the heart's own coronary vessels excepted — GNM places those in the ectoderm), lymph nodes, ovaries, testicles. Here the pattern inverts — tissue is lost during conflict activity and rebuilt during healing. The theme is self-devaluation.
Ectoderm (cerebral cortex). The newest layer: outer skin, sensory organs, and the linings of ducts and passages. Cell loss or ulceration during activity, repair during healing. Themes are separation, territory, and identity.
An everyday example of why the layer matters: eczema (ectoderm) and a thickening of the intestinal lining (endoderm) are, in GNM's reading, opposite tissue responses to entirely different conflicts — so lumping them together as "inflammation" loses the distinction the framework cares about.
