Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer

The German internist (1935-2017) who developed German New Medicine and its Five Biological Laws after the unexpected death of his son and his own subsequent cancer diagnosis.

This is an educational explanation of a German New Medicine concept, not medical advice or a substitute for professional care.

Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer (1935–2017) was a German internist and the originator of German New Medicine.

His full life story — his training in Tübingen, his son's death, how the theory took shape, the Five Biological Laws, his books, and his later years in Spain and Norway — is told in our biography of Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer.

In brief: after his son Dirk was fatally shot in 1978 and Hamer was then diagnosed with testicular cancer, he proposed that a sudden, isolating shock could start a disease process through a specific area of the brain. That shock gave the framework its central term, the DHS, or Dirk Hamer Syndrome. The ring formations he described on brain scans, which he called Hamer Foci, and the case histories he collected became the basis of the Five Biological Laws. For an overview of the framework itself, see what German New Medicine is.
